All systems go for the new season
Down and Cork might not have got around to playing this year’s All Ireland football final yet, but Eire Og Seville are well ahead with preparations underway for the 2010/2011 Iberian Championship.
Last Sunday’s AGM in Merchants bar saw a new committee elected / appointed for the coming campaign and plans outlined for the year. These plans are ambitious but doable, as the second year of Eire Og Seville looks set to build on what was a really promising beginning in 2009 /10.
The first training session of the season is this coming Sunday morning at 11AM down at what might become our regular venue on the rugby pitch in La Cartuja. This is located just behind Parque Alamillo. Click here for a map. Great news is that this year we should have a ladies team going as well, which is fantastic for the club. It is full steam ahead now from here on in, with all players encouraged / advised / threatened to get along each and every week.
Fund raising activity is also well under way. The first quiz night of the season will take place in Merchants on Friday September 26th. This should be the first of regular quizzes and events in different venues around Seville to raise a few quid for the year.
We’ll also be undertaking a pretty exhaustive recruitment campaign to look to get more players and supporters interested and involved. Any Andalucian-based players (male or female, Irish, Spanish or any other nationality) interested in getting involved are welcome to email firstname.lastname@example.org or just come along any Sunday morning. Don’t worry if you’re new to Gaelic football or not as fit as you once were, it’s enthusiasm that counts.
Potentially the most exciting club news is that tentative discussions are under way about holding a leg of the 2010-11 Iberian Championships by the banks of the Gaudalquivir. It’s early days yet, but more on that when we have it.
Until then, see yis Sunday.
