All coming together nicely
The excitement is really building now as Seville prepares to host the first round of the 2011 Iberian GAA Championship on Saturday February 19th. Teams from Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Marbella, La Coruña and Pamplona are coming down to take us on in the first ever gaelic football tournament held in the city. We will be ready, what with the tough twice weekly training sessions, intense tactical discussions in the Merchants and all the other prep work that’s been going on.
We are really hoping a decent crowd shows up to watch the games and cheer us on. The games again are on at the Instalaciones Deportivas La Cartuja beside Seville’s Estadio Olimpico. We hope as many sports fans from Sevilla as possible – both guiris and locals – can come along to Cartuja on February 19th and cheer their team on to victory. Tell all your friends to come on down, it’s free in, and any sports fans will no doubt get a kick out of seeing a new, exciting game like the Gah. If anyone has a contact in local press – papers, websites or TV / radio – let us know and we can hopefully drum up a bit of publicity for the tournament.
The logistical preparation for hosting the club’s first big event is coming together too. Most of the visitors are booked into hostels close to the city centre. The Friday night meet and greet is in O’Neills in Edificio Viapol, after match grub on Saturday in Una Peña Betica, c / Santa María la Blanca and then prize giving and relaxing till late in Merchants c/ Canelejas on Saturday night. Work on the tournament programme is ongoing, but it should be available to download from this site or by email pretty soon.
